Tour of ICT4Farmers Projects by the Minister of ICT Entourage – Kiboga District Farmers Association

The activity was intent to understand the impact of ICT on the farmers through ICT4Farmers as the study product. the activity was honored by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, the Board Chair of Uganda Communication commission Prof. Dorothy Okello.  The ED Uganda Communication Commission Mrs Irene Kaggwa-Sewankambo  The PS Ministry of ICT and National Guidance Aminah Zawedde and the Chairperson Rural Communications Development Fund Mr. Nyombi Tembo

THE IVR SERVICES (CALL CENTER).

The toll free call Centre number (0800209003) supports the 5 major languages which include; English (1), Luganda (2), Runyakitara (3), Swahili (4) and Luo (5) the system offers Agricultural support for various value chains namely Animal husbandry, crop husbandry, fisheries and forestry. Coffee related issues are supported in English and Luganda. Therefore, the team the Ministry of ICT and UCC was showed how the farmers call centre works, they also toured the call centre operations offices where all the calls are managed and monitored.

E-Agriculture Academy.

E-Agric academy is the mode of delivery of learning and training through digital devices for the farmers. This makes it easy for farmers to learn anytime, anywhere, with few, if any, restrictions. Basically, an e-agriculture academy is a platform for training, learning, or education delivered online through a computer or any other digital device for the smallholder farmer.  the team the Ministry of ICT and UCC were showed how the Agric academy works and how it’s a platform for authentic and reliable farming information that is reviewed and approved by the Ministry of agriculture animal and fisheries.  This information is organized into different courses and these course are available for all people to run freely.

ICT4Farmers Mobile App

The ICT4Farmers Mobile app provides several services to the farmers and other value chain actors, some of which include Farmers’ profiling, Input and output providers, Market access services, Resource sharing, farmers record management, farmer workers and activity management. The mobile app is developed to work on android powered smartphone and is available on the Google Play store. The team was showed how the mobile app works and how the farmers are using it to better manage their farming activities but also have access to market and service providers.
